General Information

The Department responsible for maintaining a public register of trademarks and trade names in Ecuador, is the Ecuatorian Institute of Intellectual Property (IEPI) in charge of keeping the records of industrial and intellectual property.

Both Decision 486 of the Commission of the Andean community and the Intellectual Property Act and its regulations are part of the local legislative body that guarantees the protection of copyright and industrial property in Ecuador. Also international treaties and conventions as TRIPS, the Cartagena Agreement, the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, and PCT Patent Cooperation Treaty were signed by Ecuador. Companies or individuals can apply for the registration of trademarks and trade names in Ecuador upon appointment of local legal representatives as our firm.

In Ecuador Registration of a trademark is valid for a period of ten (10) years and may be renewed within the time limits prescribed by law
