Dominican Republic's Constitution and related laws provide rights to people who are arrested or detained by the Dominican authorities among which may be listed the following:
1 - The right not to incriminate yourself and to remain silent before interrogation without the fear that silence will be used against you;
2 - Right to be assisted by a lawyer as from the moment of arrest.
3 - Right to a phone call.
4 - Right to be informed (at any time) of the alleged charges against you or the reason of detention.
5 - Right to be presumed innocent until a decision issued by a competent court proves otherwise.
6 - Right to have at all times the physical and psychological integrity safeguarded.
7 - Right to that within no later than 48 hours a judge knows and rules on the arrest and the charges against you.
8 - The right to a oral , contradictory and public trial, where you are guaranteed the right of defense.
